The majority of Norwegian universities and colleges are public, which means that the state owns them but they are still extremely independent. The government of Norway also funds a number of private universities.
The Norwegian higher education system includes all approved institutions and/or programs. Except for a few private university colleges, all institutions of higher learning are government-run. Norway has been adhering to the goals of the Bologna process in European higher education since 2003. Implementing a 3 + 2 + 3 degree system with a Bachelor's, European master’s degree, and Ph.D. With the implementation of the new degree system, it is now simpler for international students who complete all or a portion of their studies in Norway to have their credentials recognized elsewhere.
